Our Ilford workshop's Range Rover engine repairs cover every fault that can occur on Range Rover, Land Rover Discovery and other JLR models: Range Rover oil leak repair, turbo repair, gearbox repair, suspension repair, electrical fault repair and more.

The work is carried out by technicians who have worked on these vehicles for more than 20 years, equipped with Land Rover SDD diagnostic software, Topix Cloud access and OE parts.

Every Range Rover engine repair begins with a Range Rover diagnostics service before we quote or start any work. Repairs without a diagnostic scan first are how you get misdiagnosis, and how you pay for parts that do not fix the problem.

Diagnose first, repair second

Every quote starts with a complete electronic vehicle health check of all modules, live data analysis and fault code reading. We know what to repair after the diagnosis, not before.

Range Rover Sport Repair

Built for performance, repaired to perform again

Covers the entire Sport range (L320 and L494) with TDV6, TDV8, SDV6, Ingenium and V8 supercharged engines. The most common jobs are ZF gearbox slip and harsh changes on the L320, turbo repair on the 3.0 TDV6 and 2.0 Ingenium, oil leaks from rear main seals and rocker cover gaskets, and air suspension compressor and valve block failures on the L494.

Precision design needs precision repair

Includes both Ingenium 2.0 and 3.0 SDV6 engines. Common issues are high-pressure fuel pump wear on the SDV6, Ingenium timing chain tensioner failure that causes oil pressure loss, and EGR valve carbon build-up on the 2.0 diesel. InControl Touch Pro Duo faults often need Land Rover SDD module programming as well as repair.

The first step

Range Rover diagnostics service: why it comes first

The Range Rover diagnostics service is the starting point for any engine, gearbox or electrical fault repair. Using Land Rover SDD and Topix Cloud, we read all control modules: engine ECU, transmission module, ABS, air suspension ECU, body control module and InControl, and display every active and stored fault code.

It also includes live data monitoring during a road test. A suspension noise that cannot be reproduced at idle may be obvious in live suspension sensor data. An intermittent turbo power loss needs live boost pressure data to tell whether the fault is the turbo, the actuator, the intercooler or the sensor. CAN bus network faults need network live data analysis, not just fault code reading.

Getting the cause right first means the right parts are sourced, the right repair is made, and the fault is gone for good, at a lower cost.

What the diagnostic scan reads

  • All control modules, active and stored codes
  • Live data during a road test
  • Boost pressure on turbo faults
  • Suspension sensor data on noise faults
  • CAN bus network analysis on electrical faults

What we see most

Top Range Rover faults and repairs

Range Rover repair work has clear patterns by model, engine and mileage. These faults account for most of the repairs we carry out.

Spanners and hand tools laid out across an engine during repair work Range Rover Oil Leak Repair

Range Rover Oil Leak Repair

Our most common repair. Most bookings are Range Rover Sport TDV6 rear main seal leaks, Range Rover Vogue TDV8 crankshaft front seal leaks, and rocker cover gasket leaks on Ingenium-engined Evoque and Velar models.

Technician holding a spanner in a workshop Range Rover Gearbox Repair

Range Rover Gearbox Repair

The ZF 6-speed in the Vogue L322 and Sport L320 fails through solenoid pack wear and fluid degradation, causing harsh changes, delayed engagement and progressive slip. Catching it at the first harsh shift is far cheaper than waiting for fault codes.

Technician working on a vehicle raised on a ramp with the bonnet open Range Rover Suspension Repair

Range Rover Suspension Repair

Air suspension on the Sport L494, Vogue L405 and Evoque fails in three ways: compressor, valve block and height sensor. Compressor failure shows as one low corner, slow ride height response, or the car dropping overnight. Worn anti-roll bar bushes are often misdiagnosed without a scan.

Close-up of a car engine with its intake manifold and pipework visible Range Rover Turbo Repair

Range Rover Turbo Repair

Applies to the TDV6 and TDV8 turbos on Sport and Vogue diesels, and the single turbo on the Ingenium 2.0. TDV6 faults are typically a variable nozzle actuator fault, giving low boost at low revs and smoke under load. Ingenium faults cover wastegate actuator and boost pressure sensor faults.

Range Rover Electrical Fault Repair

Newer models (Velar, Evoque Mk2, Sport L494) see InControl Touch Pro, blind spot and auto stop-start faults. Older Vogue L322 and Sport L320 see battery drain, window regulator and suspension ECU faults. Land Rover SDD programs modules and clears codes.

Why an independent specialist

Dealer-level work, independent prices

Work at our Ilford workshop uses the same diagnostic software (Land Rover SDD, Topix Cloud), the same OE-specification parts and the same technical knowledge as a franchised dealer, at independent specialist prices.

A franchised dealer works to flat-rate times. We do not. Our specialists inspect the vehicle, diagnose the problem and repair it properly, not to a flat-rate clock. Most customers who come to us from a dealer save 30%-40% on the same repair, with no compromise in tools, parts or workmanship.

Independent repair also does not affect your warranty. UK block exemption laws mean Range Rover, Land Rover Discovery and other JLR owners can use any independent specialist without voiding it. Service history is updated electronically after every visit.

What you get with us

  • Same Land Rover SDD & Topix Cloud as the dealer
  • OE-specification parts, never pattern parts
  • 30%-40% saving versus a franchised dealer
  • Warranty intact under UK block exemption
  • Service history updated electronically

Questions

Range Rover repair FAQs

What happens when I take my Range Rover in for repair?

The first step is the Range Rover diagnostics service using Land Rover SDD and Topix Cloud. We only quote Range Rover engine repairs once the diagnostic result shows the fault and its cause.

Do you repair the Range Rover gearbox and suspension as well as the engine?

Yes. Our workshop repairs all Range Rover systems: engine, gearbox and L322 gearbox, suspension, turbo, brakes, electrical faults, cooling, oil leaks and suspension noise.

Will Range Rover repair at an independent specialist void my warranty?

No. UK block exemption laws allow Range Rover repair by any independent JLR specialist without voiding the manufacturer warranty. We record all of your service history.

How long will it take to repair my Range Rover engine?

It varies. A Range Rover oil leak repair from a rocker cover gasket takes 1-3 hours. A turbo repair or gearbox repair takes longer. We provide a written estimate before any work begins.

Do you fix Range Rover suspension noise?

Yes. Our suspension noise fix begins with a Range Rover diagnostics service and visual inspection to determine whether the noise is from air suspension parts, anti-roll bar bushes, top mounts or shock absorbers before we quote any parts.

Do you repair Land Rover Discovery as well as Range Rover?

Yes. Land Rover Discovery repair (Discovery 3, 4 and 5) is performed at our Ilford workshop using the same tools and original equipment (OE) parts as our Range Rover engine repair.
